Baby Blue Blanket

I am on a roll with these blankets!! I have finished #2 of the 3 blankets I started! This one is geared more for boys as it is made with a royal blue, pastel blue, white and trimmed in gray. I did it in some thick, bold stripes with a stitch pattern that wasn't quite so "girly" in look. I added a single crochet trim to keep it simple and just add that little accent color. This one is actually a little bigger than I normally make my baby blankets, so it would actually be great for a toddler! Here it is in all it's glory

As you can see, it is a super snuggly blanket and has a great textured look. I am very pleased with the outcome of this blanket and hope I can find it a new home other than my bedroom!

I have it for sale here in my Etsy shop.

If you'd like to make one yourself, the pattern can be found here.

BLANKETS: (Sometimes) The Bane of My Existence

I have the worst attention span when it comes to working on blankets. I start one, get frustrated/tired/bored or find another that I just HAVE to start right away. So the first one gets tucked away in some little corner, where it can still stare at me, sad that I've moved on to another. I get really pumped up and say "I will finish this one before I start another. Then I'll go back to the first one." Pssshh. That very rarely happens. It's a vicious cycle. Once again, I get sucked in by another beautiful pattern or idea of my own that just cannot wait another minute. Then I get something like this...

Here before your eyes, are 3 partially to half finished blankets. All 3 having their own wonderful characteristics and beauty, but also all having been shunned at some point or another by their creator. One day I will finish these, and they will all hopefully go to wonderful homes!

Want the patterns?!?! Of course you do!!

Butterfly Wings Photo Prop

Who ever came up with the idea to put babies in cute little animal hats and outfits for pictures is a genius. I love babies, a LOT. My infatuation with these tiny little beings is my inspiration. I have 3 children of my own and they give me ideas all the time for new hats, hair bows, headbands, etc.

My latest project was inspired by the spring time. I was at my son's Kindergarten Field Day a couple weeks ago and was amazed at all the butterflies I saw flying around through the playground. Then it hit me, butterfly wings! I didn't want to just make a hat and embellish it with a butterfly. I wanted to make something with big, beautiful wings that could serve as a focal point for a baby's first pictures. Here is part of the finished product:

I say part of the finished product because there will also be a hat to go with it, I just ran out of black yarn and have not been out to get more! I hate when that happens...

If you like this pattern and are interested in purchasing it, I have it on Etsy as well as Ravelry. If you would like to purchase a finished item, you can shoot me an email at chloebmccrary@aol.com, as I have not put together the listing for Etsy yet.

Happy Crocheting!!

Back to Blogging!

I took a nice long hiatus from the blogging world, but I'm getting back at it! I look forward to sharing ideas and projects, asking questions, and hopefully gaining some new followers!

Over the last couple years I have made some wonderful items, and then there were some that were total flops. You live and you learn, right? My most recent masterpiece is this beautiful Mermaid Tail photo prop.

This was actually part of an entire set. It also had a matching seashell top and custom headband that I made to go with it.

I am currently working on getting the pattern written out for this so that you can all try your hand at it! I'll be looking for testers as well since this will be a multi-size pattern.

Stay tuned for more posts over the next couple days!

Barefoot Sandals Pattern For Toddlers

Here's a quick pattern that's great for summer! My little one wears these around the house all the time. They are great for the beach too!! Enjoy!

I made these for my 20 month old daughter, so the pattern is for a toddler around that age. Feel free to add extra rows for a larger size or take one or 2 out for something smaller. You are more than welcome to sell any made item from this pattern, but please don't distribute this pattern as your own or sell it, thanks!!

Materials
G Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn (cotton or acrylic)
Tapestry Needle
Buttons or beads for embellishment

Start by chaining 8 and sl st to form a loop
R1) ch 2 (this counts as a dc here and throughout), 3 dc in loop. ch 2 and turn. (4)
R2) dc in same st as turning chain and each st across. ch 2 and turn. (5)
R3) dc in same st as turning chain and each st across. ch 2 and turn. (6)
R4) dc in same st as turning chain and each st across. ch 2 and turn.(7)
R5) dc in same st as turning chain, ch 2 and skip next st. sc in next st, ch 2, sc in next, ch 2, skip next st and 2 dc in last st (6) Do not end off.
From here you will be making the ankle loop. You may want to get a measurement of the ankle to make sure the sandal will fit around securely but not too tightly. I chained 15 and then sl st to the opposite side of the sandal where I started R5. End off and weave in your ends.

You can embellish these with a flower, buttons, butterfly, leave them plain, or however else you can think of. The possibilities are endless ;)

Loop Petals Flower

I know I haven't been on in forever but I have a FREE  pattern to share with you today :) It's a really simple flower that has an open look to it. I used it on a Sock Monkey hat intended for a girl for a photographer friend of mine. So without further ado, here it is!

I used an I hook and worsted weight yarn, but you could use any hook and any yarn to get different sized flowers.

1) Ch 7, join to form a loop.
2) Ch 1, make 12 sc inside the loop, join to first sc with sl st.
3) *Ch 5, sl st in next sc, then sl st into the next sc,* repeat until you have 6 loops. Sl st to beginning of round.
4) Sc 8 times into the first petal loop then sl st to the space between petals. Repeat for the other 5 petals. Sl st to the beginning of the round. End off leaving a tail for sewing.
If you have any questions, please let me know

Here is the finished Sock Monkey hat I used the flower on. If you are interested in the hat, please check out my Etsy shop or my Facebook page! FB fans will receive FREE SHIPPING on all orders!!!

My Baby Girl's 1st Birthday!

This Friday is my daughter's 1st birthday! I am in awe at how fast the past year has gone. To help celebrate this milestone occasion, I made her a birthday outfit! I crocheted a tiara for her, did a "1" applique shirt, and made a tulle tutu for her. Check it out!

For the shirt I used some heat bond and ironed the number one onto it and then did a blanket stitch around the number to add some color. Pretty simple, but I think it looks so cute! The tutu was SUPER easy. I used some wide elastic and took some tulle strips and just knotted them onto the elastic in a pattern. The tiara is my favorite. I used a pattern from Oodles 4 Noodles. It was really easy to follow. I wanted my daughter's birthday to be special, and while she won't remember it, we can always show her pictures of what a pretty little princess she was!

I have also been busy working on some more Halloween hats. I got a vampire and a candy corn hat finished recently. Here they are!

The vampire was a bit of a challenge for me as I could not find a pattern I liked. So I just kinda made one up as I went along :) I think it is appropriate for small children since it is not too scary looking and doesn't have any "blood" on it. All of my Halloween hats are in my Etsy shop and just waiting for you to order one! Happy crafting everyone!

My first Crochet Pattern!!!

I have been scouring the web for a pattern for a hat that has a shell stitch pattern. I have not found one that I really like so I decided to try and write one of my own. It came out the way I wanted, but I don't know if I wrote down everything correctly. In other words, I need a few testers! Anyone interested? It's pretty basic and not hard to follow. I just need to know where I messed up writing the pattern. Since I am a self taught crocheter, I sometimes improvise when I am not too sure about a pattern, thus the writing of it may be off a bit. Please let me know who is interested! Here are a cople pictures of the finished hat.

Butterfly Tote

This is a tote I made for my niece. She loves butterflies and I thought this would be a great back to school gift for her! I got the bag pattern from http://www.crochetdreamz.blogspot.com and it is super easy to make. The butterfly patterns I got from http://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-crochet-butterfly.html. Instead of using the embroidery floss I just used the yarn I used for the purse. I also have a flower version that is listed in my etsy shop. If you have any questions, let me know!
